CROSSPOINT COMMUNITY: SCRAPBOOKING POSSE

I am so psyched to announce that we'll have a scrapbooking community group starting in February!

Peyton and I have already got his scrapbook started, we're so excited!

Sign ups for the group are in the DCHS lobby for the Crosspoint Dickson Campus Members or any members willing to make the drive.

We plan to meet at the Crosspoint Dickson office and we are working on providing childcare in the room next to us.

This group will meet on Tuesdays and is for women who love scrap booking or just want to give it a try. We will grow together and in the Lord as we put together our memories. There will be a time of devotion followed by fellowship over our books. Pack your supplies and join in!

Once a month, we will also get our hands dirty and take on some service to help the community (not gonna lie, I'm secretly, or not so secretly now I guess, hoping to build/repair a house or two! I have a hot pink leather tool belt that needs some breaking in and I can't think of a better way!).

Fashion Session: Heylee B Launches Brianne Cosmetics

Heylee B has launched a new cosmetic line: Brianne.

Heylee had us take some shots to show off several great holiday looks for the winter!

You guys have seen Heylee's work in my blog in the form of the clothes that she offers along with trunk shows and fashion advice when shopping her clothes, however, the Heylee B company is not limited to trendy apparel; Heylee is also a highly experienced make up artist who does not only cutting edge fashion, but also makes a bride totally shine. Sidenote: I've never been able to pull off red lipstick and the last time I tried, I recall walking away in defeat from the Lancome counter, lips stained like a clown although I'd tried desperately to get all traces of the lipstick off before leaving. Maybe I should challenge Heylee to make it work on me and do a follow up blog? =)

Peyton is Here!!

Piper has a new baby brother! World- meet Baby Peyton. Baby Peyton- meet the world. It's pretty cool here; I think you'll like it. And...until you are old enough to hide them from me, Mommy will always have you in a cute hat- well, not always, you were born with a fabulous punk rock head of hair that would be a crime to conceal.

PIPER IN WONDERLAND: Her First Birthday Party!

My baby Piper turned 1; like all mommies, I am stunned at how fast time flies. Here are a few pics from her Wonderland party. My super talented sister-in-law, Tisha, made the Piper in Wonderland banner using some of her own material along with material lovingly passed down from my great grandmother. The shabby chic frames are from one of my favorite downtown Dickson shops HOME AGAIN ANTIQUES (Mischa brought these straight out to me, she always knows exactly what I need before I do!) and the silver tea pot and accents are from West End Consignment in Dickson. I made the cake myself using a from scratch raspberry cream cheese frosting and (2) 9 inch cakes with an 8 inch cake stacked on top. I used Duff cake tattoos to aid in the Alice in Wonderland whimsical feel since my husband has grown a little tired of the taste of fondant.

I made the rosette poms from wadding up magazine pages, taping them into a ball, and using glittery tissue paper to roll into rosettes and then glue to the poms (inspired and following directions from funcheaporfree.com).

I had several amazing friends use their talents in helping set up the decor and Heylee B came out and did my make up along with face paint of the kids!

Thanks so much to everyone! It was so fun seeing all of the great Alice in Wonderland costumes!!!!

BOY OR GIRL?

Obviously, the grand theme of the party! I made this banner using doilies and letters cut from cardstock using the Don Juan cartridge of my Cricut Create machine and strung them together using stolen fishing line from my husband's tackle box. Woohoo!

The guests further declared their thoughts on whether it was a boy or girl by drinking pink or blue punch. I kind of went with an Alice in Wonderland theme on the punch jugs and love it. I think we'll be using this theme for Piper's upcoming 1st birthday party!

The grand war. Boy or girl? Mommy and Daddy were on opposing sides which made it SO FUN! We had the guests divide up for group shots. Why? So that we could post a HUGE pic of the losers on www.frozenexposure.blogspot.com! KIDDING! They aren't losers, they just...weren't right. Okay okay, I love you guys!!

Below: The all-determining cake!

When guests arrive in their pink or blue shirts (thus declaring their side) they see the "girl or boy" sign on the door (I threw this together, with the help of my Mom) using my Cricut Create machine and some 12x12 pink and blue cardstock. If you have time, it may be fun to dress it up by hanging little blue and pink pacifiers, etc., from the bottom! Or copy the ultrasound pic of the baby's face and have it hanging below it.

Daddy totally thought it was a girl. Mommy thought it was a boy. Both of us were equally surprised and shocked, though!

For anyone who is waiting to find out the gender of their baby, I HIGHLY recommend having a gender reveal party! Last year, we had our family meet us at 4D Peek in Franklin, TN to reveal the gender of Piper (we were 16 weeks along) and it was really fun, but I don't remember the suspense being as rich as it was with the gender cake (no pun intended).

This go around, just knowing that the ultrasound tech knew what it was, and that Josh knew (Josh is my sister-in-law's boyfriend) who baked our cake (he did such an awesome job!!!!), was so tough, because we knew we could corner him at any second and find out if we wanted to (or just peek into the envelope containing the results). But then seeing the cake in person, and KNOWING the answer was right there, but hanging out with family, taking pictures and playing games was so great, and everyone had their guess on whether it was a boy or girl so it was crazy suspenseful! You can tell in the video, I hit this point where I was loving the excitement and suspense so much that I didn't just immediately cut into the cake. I wanted to delay it as long as possible, because it was so fun guessing.

There are options on revealing the gender of your baby. You can:

1) Have someone you trust let your florist know the results and they will deliver a bouquet in the middle of the party that is the color that represents the gender;

2) Have someone you trust get the results and get blue or pink helium balloons and conceal them during the party, and during the big announcement, release the balloons;

3) Take the envelope with the concealed results to your baker and let them make a cake with neutral icing on the outside, but when you cut into the cake, the cake batter is colored pink or blue.

We obviously went with the cake option and I don't regret it because you see pink or blue balloons all the time. You see pink flowers or blue flowers all the time. But seeing the cake throughout the party, KNOWING the answer is within it, and then cutting into it to see this shocking pink or blue color that you aren't used to seeing in a cake, it's just this HUGE, overwhelming thing that makes you SO happy. So....=) AH!

Gender Reveal Parties! (Particularly Ours)

So when I was 16 weeks pregnant with our little Piper last year, we had a fun gathering at 4D Peek in Franklin, TN with our friends and family to find out the gender and view the ultrasound together. It was definitely fun and memorable, but we hadn't HEARD of the "gender reveal party" at that point.

A couple of people have told us about the gender reveal parties, so we thought, "why not? let's do it!" And now I'm hearing about them everywhere! I even cried over GMA's short coverage of a couple of them last week. (That could be the hormones? Excitement?)

So my Husband and I went for our gender determining ultrasound yesterday, and it was SO hard to not beg the lab tech to tell us what we were having! We had her turn the screen away when she was "down there" and then the printed pics and DVD video that she made, she sealed in an envelope for us to give to our baker. An envelope, might I add, that if a person were to hold up to the light could TOTALLY see if boy or girl was written across the ultrasound pic but since we pride ourselves on our great discipline, we of course, did not. And then a baker who turns out to be my sister-in-law's boyfriend. How could I turn down his offer to make our cake when he went to culinary school??!!

I've been working on the decor using my cricut cutting machine today and we're so psyched!

For anyone who is wondering if it is worth it- I'd definitely say yes. At first, I thought it was just a party for a party's sake....but now I totally get it. The suspense is so great when you know that the lab tech and person making your cake know and you could know but you're holding back. We're just waiting 24 hours from our ultrasound (our party is tonight) but we've both been crazy excited!

What's even more fun is that the guests are showing up in pink or blue to represent what gender they think the baby will be (their awesome idea) and we'll have pink punch and blue punch so the guests can drink whichever color to further "choose their team."

My husband is positive it's another girl. I'm positive it's a boy! AHHHHH! So much excitement!!! We'll let you know and I'll be posting pics to share in case you're planning a gender reveal party of your own and want some ideas!

I Heart Baby Paige

Well, we finally got to put the brand spankin new newborn props to use and got some great photos of my newest little niece, Paige, at only 4 days old! Thanks SO much to Tish for helping me get her little legs and arms bent just right without waking her up too much! And thanks to my brother and sister-in-law for trusting us with their brand new bundle of awesome!

The Dads

We had a lot of fun celebrating such a special Father's Day together yesterday! Here are a few pics featuring some of my favorite men!

I felt a little dorky making all of the signs, soda labels, cupcake stakes, and banners, etc., and the guys are usually SO fussy when they feel cheesy or like they are being forced to pose, so I was so happy and surprised when they seemed all about grabbing the banner and signs up and posing in the front yard for some "we love our dads" pics!

I hope that everyone had a wonderful day either with their Dads or remembering their Dads. They really are something to be celebrated.

So tomorrow is Father's Day and Piper and I have been hard at work to make it extra special.

1. My husband and my baby Piper are celebrating their FIRST Father's Day together!

2. It's one (of my three) brothers' FIRST Father's Day! His baby arrived just in time (4 days before) Father's Day!

3. My amazing Dad has been fighting cancer since I was three years old and we are so very blessed to still have him with us. He is truly inspiring and every day, shines brighter in our lives as my Father and as my Piper's Grandfather.

SO! In honor of all of these great things, I have done a little blog searching, and took a quick little visit to a wonderful local bakery called The Cupcakery, and have come up with some great things. I figured I'd post a quick link for anyone who's looking for that one little extra cute detail for the special Dads in their lives. All you need are scissors, printing paper, and a string! The rest can be totally improvised! Good luck!

Welcome to This Great Big World, Baby Paige!

Piper and I got to spend the day in Smyrna yesterday with Uncle E and Aunt T anticipating and then celebrating the birth of little Baby Paige!!! Piper was so excited to meet her new baby cousin and I am so thrilled for Eric and Tammy and enjoyed every minute of holding my new baby niece!!!

ONE, TWO, TREE?

My brother and sister-in-law gave us this peach tree to celebrate our wedding and stand for our first year of marriage- to grow with us.

Of course, Bobby and I are multi-taskers, so the tree also stands for Piper's first year and will grow with her, and the day we planted the tree in our yard marks the day that we found out we were pregnant with our little baby #2.

So we've had it planted for a couple months now and I've miraculously managed to NOT maim it (may my college chia pet R.I.P. it only grew green sprouties around it's ankles and lasted a month before I gave up, also R.I.P. any other flowers, plants, breads with dough that falls when you open the oven prematurely, etc., that I have ever tried to nurture) and what's more(!) than the tree still being alive is that we've grown a peach!!! WHY IS THIS SO EXCITING?!?!?!?!??!?!

I am feeling so brave that I want to plant an entire garden in my backyard! (Entire being cilantro...and maybe a pink flower)

FLOWER POWER

Okay, so if you're like me when you're planning your wedding, you're wishing EVERYTHING would last forever. Nothing beats fresh, beautiful flowers, but once of the saddest things is watching your beautiful flowers die. So I stumbled across these bouquets on Etsy designed by THERITSYROSE. And....WOW. My bouquet costs were right at the same as this ($350-$575) so I'm not exactly thinking this is a bad deal and it's definitely a permanent solution! Not for a second do I regret having the AMAZING Caprice at The Enchanted Florist do our flowers, but I definitely wouldn't mind seeing a bride use these!

My Baby Cousin's Farm Wedding

This dress is GORGEOUS! Love the flower accents!!!

Not sure who her florist was, but the bride was SO happy with her flowers! I loved the farm so much that I had to get a "back porch" shot with her sweet bouquet.

Farm weddings are so HUGE and it's not hard to see why! This view is phenomenal! I loved being a guest and getting to photograph this gorgeous wedding for my sweet cousins! With this view, I felt like I was on vacation in Gatlinburg.

Okay, guys. So I JUST got introduced to all of the Rocky movies this year, but this was one of the coolest recessionals!

Every one of these handsome men are related to me. Two of them are available, ladies. They are going to fling mud at me for that.

So, I got wind that bird seed being flung by overenthusiastic guests doesn't exactly feel like a day at the spa.

I am IN LOOOOOVE with these vintage looking flowers. *sigh* And check out the sweet bird accents!

Last month, I married the super handsome, super awesome Bobby. As our hip pastor announced at our ceremony "Bobby is a gorgeous man...." (Bobby blushed!).
My brother and sister-in-law are crazy crafty and made a lot of our props for the wedding. Below is our woodburned "Just Married" sign.

We had my Border Collie mix "Bear" as our Ring "Bear"er! Get it? Xo) Recipe for disaster? No, sir! Bear walked the aisle like a show dog!

Speaking of recipe for disaster, we took it one step further by having our infant daughter, Piper, in a wagon (She just started sitting up a month before the wedding, we had her trusty boppy supporting her under pillowy white fluffing) as our little wedding queen. It was all I could do not to snatch her up and carry her down the aisle with me, she was so glittery and cuddly. And going down the aisle, pulled in her royal wagon by her big sister, she sat up with complete baby grace and poise, while smirking at the guests and playing with her little flower wand.

This pic is for Marielle of The Loft Salon. Marielle is phenomenal with hair. She did my color, cut, and style. She's a complete artist and takes her time no matter what she's doing with her client's hair. If you don't believe me, ask the 8 close friends of mine that have followed me to Marielle! I still get stopped and asked about my hair thanks to her great work.

That's all the wedding pics for now! Of course, I'm editing my wedding pictures with effects, so it's going to be a while before I get more up, but I just want to thank all of the amazing friends, family, and vendors who helped make our wedding day unimagineably perfect. Easter

This was Baby Piper's first Easter! Hope everyone had a wonderful Easter weekend- here are a few Easter memories of ours:

This is what we call her "gypsy" hands. She gets to wiggling both hands back and forth at once (for balance or entertainment?) and it looks like she is trying to cast a spell on her admirers. Too late, Pi, we were under your little spell the minute we knew you existed.

More magic hands.

This smile just gets us, and apparently, we aren't the only ones. I never knew how friendly the world was until we had Pi Pie. Every dinner we sit down at, no matter if we are at McDonald's or Maggianos, people come up and kiss our baby or touch her little hands and tell us about their own children. It's crazy what babies do to people. They are SO stinkin nice!!

When I have her in the little baby carrier facing out towards the crowd as I'm shopping, people run up (forget the mama the baby is attached to!) and start patting her little legs as they are wiggling and dancing from the carrier. I believe this is the reason Pi loves shopping with Mommy. A great day for Pi is shopping all around Franklin, Bellevue, Green Hills, even Downtown Dickson, ALL DAY LONG and getting to meet all of God's creation. =) She's such a great companion. We're so excited for the beautiful weather since we can now enjoy the outdoor marketplaces like Providence in Mt. Juliet and The Avenue in Murfreesboro! Helloooooooooooo, farmer's tans! (Pi and I both got one this Saturday while having our very first yard sale! Kind of the most fun ever since we got to meet so many of our great neighbors and make enough money to get the pretty glass storm door we've been holding out for! We-I use the term "we" loosely- are trying this whole Fung Shui thing where I- since I'm sorta the only packrat in the house- get rid of these not so sentimental things like DVDs and clothes I haven't worn in a year- or six. Don't judge, apparently I had great style even six years ago, I made the day of several pre-teens! That, or that horrible thing is happening to me where "my day" has been recycled to retro. Like bell bottoms coming back. )

I. LOVE. THIS. CROWN. AND. THIS. BABY. Perfect combination!

Go ahead, Pi, tell them how you're a big deal in Hong Kong! Ok, since your vocab is limited to "Da Da" right now, I will. We had this purple chiffon bow special made by LemonRing in Hong Kong. The owner, who is super sweet, asked for pics so that she could use Piper for advertisement/promotion. YAY FOR THE BEAUTIFUL LITTLE!

Pi got to Easter Egg Hunt! Play with Nanny! Go see Granny at the park! Wear bunny ears and hug Daddy! Play with her sweet cousins! Earn a golden egg from Mawmaw (Daddy had to do his chickenbird dance and Mommy had to do her Cartman impersonation to get this for her).

Wednesday Kick Off: Women's Study

Hey, ladies! We've got our "What's It Like To Be Married To Me" (by Christian author Linda Dillow) facebook group/study group set up! There are now 11 of us, and a few more people may add. Please contact me on facebook if you are interested in joining!

We are trying to get everyone to have the book by this Wednesday. We are an online women's group reading 1 chapter a week. Those who can will be online on facebook at the same time on Wednesdays (still working out the time, either noon or 7:30 pm, or even 8:00/9:00 a.m.?)- those who can't meet at our meeting time or who have an unpredictable schedule- PERFECT! That's the beauty of the online group, you can put your bit in at 1:00 a.m. on Saturday and still be participating! Let me know if you're in and I'll add you to our facebook group!

What's It Like To Be Married To Me?

It's hard to get a physcial group together. You know, tuesday lunches, lattes, sitting around criss-cross apple sauce looking at each other's adorable shoes and discussing the ins and outs of life. I would LOVE this, but it's 2011- mixed jobs, schedules, kids, hobbies, etc. So I have an idea. Divorce rate is pretty high, right? And as someone with experience in the wedding industry and now a being a wife myself, I think it would be pretty gnarly (yes, I just said gnarly and spelled it correctly, too) to do a women's study and who knows? Maybe some of the marriages out there will really benefit from it, even the ones that don't need work at this point. My theory is that there is nothing wrong with a little preventative maintenance. If no one wants to jump on board with me, I'll do the study myself. But I found this book for women, by Christian author Linda Dillow called "What's It Like to be Married to Me? And Other Dangerous Questions." The book includes a ten or twelve week reflective bible study. The idea is that everyone who wants to join have the book by next Wednesday. I will set up a forum for our discussions and we read one chapter a week. Anyone who wants to share or discuss each week's chapter can feel free to share, anyone who wants to remain private but still keep up with us and read, does not have to post or get personal. That's it. Please email me at tanya@frozenexposure.com or comment if you're in. I'll post the deets next week of where our forum will be set up. We'll either have a blog or a quick topic or even something here. This is a ten to twelve week commitment but won't take up too much of your time. I'd love to share this with anyone who is interested. Even if we are only facebook friends because you like photography. =) If you are afraid you can't commit to ten to twelve weeks but think you can do part of it, join anyway. Do as much as you can. This isn't boot camp. It will benefit you as much as you want to let it.

Wow. 19 Days til the big "I Do!"

I have to say, brides (former, current, and future), hats off. This process is...an experience, right? I am loving absolutely everything about it, but I have to say, the craziest obstacles:
1) picking vendors that CARE and will be COOL and have VISION and are FLEXIBLE
2) colors. I love absolutely EVERY color at least five times a day. I decided to add a third color in for my reception to liven it up. Yellow. Yes, bright, sunshiny, happy happy yellow. I will however, not be accenting my girls or my own vintage (totally custom) gown with it.
3) theme. They sort of happen on their own. Mine? Wood (think lover's initials carved on a tree)and crystals (as many in the Swarovski variety as possible). Think Country Girl Meets Hollywood Glam.
4)venue. Somewhere everyone can get to, but somewhere PERFECTLY you.

So. Vendors. I picked people I know. Being in the industry has it's advantages. One being that I know who I love being around and who absolutely pours their heart and soul into doing what they love.
We are hiring a DJ that has this hilarious Steve Carrell "still" sense of humor. Seriously going to make the reception a blast. (And the end of the ceremony- gonna be a little surprise/homage to us 80's babies) (check out www.djetc.com)
Our photographer is one of my close friends whose work is most like mine and yet, this sister has traveled all over the place (www.saradharper.com)
And our Pastor. (www.crosspoint.tv) (www.blakeunfettered.wordpress.com) My. Oh. My. What can we say? Blake Bergstrom of Crosspoint. Our amazing, awe-inspiring, flip-flop wearing, "what up, bro" greeting, Blake. He has four of his own daughters, and when he read the words he'll be saying to officiate our wedding, you could see in his eyes how much he means it when he says we are to be treated like the princesses our dads have spent our entire lives preparing us to be. I have to say, after all the planning and sparkles and lighting and glamour, sitting down with my Bobby and with Blake to discuss what this was actually all FOR and ABOUT, it was mind-blowing how beautiful MARRIAGE really is. It's pretty big stuff. Even more perfect is that CrossPoint is currently running a series called "5 Things" that gives the married and hope-to-be-marrieds a look into the issues in most marriages and how to treat one another.
I feel lucky? And it's more than Christian Louboutin heels lucky. Although the bond between a girl and her heels is hardly something that should be downplayed, marriage does exceed it quite measurably.

FAMILY AND FRIENDS
They are phenomenal. You really see how special you are to them on your wedding day. The work they put into giving your wedding all of the right touches is astounding. Having three amazing brothers (one who is mondo impressive with a wood burner) is such a bonus when it comes to personalizing all the big stuff (and building personalized shabby chic easels, wooden heart Just Married banners). They also happen to have wonderfully, creative wives. Now, how wonderful the boys are when it comes to the reception and not giving a humiliating speech about me, is to be determined.

VENDORS/VENUES
I will be making posts giving shout outs to the vendors that we've carefully selected (most without a doubt) but I would like to highly recommend a vendor we were not able to book.
Tap Root Farms in Franklin, TN. We had already booked our perfect venue before we discovered Tap Root Farms was in fact available the day of our wedding. Tap Root Farms would have also made an incredibly beautiful venue for the wedding. What impressed me most about Tap Root Farms, was my discussion with Susan (the owner) when I informed her we had, unfortunately, already booked our venue. Susan surprised me with a sincere "Well, the important thing is you have found somewhere you love to have your wedding and it will be absolutely beautiful. If you need anything, pleases call." Wow. I'm telling you, I hear about the "venue beasts" ALL the time and it's so refreshing to come across someone like Susan.

IF THE BRIDE (Enter: Me) IS THE PRINCESS...
Then my Prince is everything he is supposed to be. He opens doors for me, watches Desperate Housewives with me, and lets absolutely no one treat me as anything less than what I am in his own eyes. I can't believe that in 19 days, we'll be starting this amazing road together. Not the marriage that your disillusioned coworkers tell you to steer clear of, and not the unrealistic fairy tale that Walt Disney has us expecting as 7 year olds. But a real, working, loving, marriage that your church prepares you for, and that God planned for you because when two people that belong together become one- it's just magic.

=) Cheesy enough? Ahhhhhhhhhhhh. I feel like it'll only get cheesier really, but brides and mommies are allowed to be cheesy. It's like our greatest allowance.

CREATIVITY
It is a beautiful thing. My bridesmaids are doing such a great job at making this entire experience brilliant. Check out this poem that they wrote!:

Bobby and Tanya are soon to be wed,
Then off to Italia they will head.
But a vacation is dreary without extra cash,
So let's help them build up their honeymoon stash!

It's easy for you if their wish ti rispetto
Don't bother with presents, just bring them denaro!

And while they're in Italy snacking on pizza,
Gliding in gondolas, admiring Pisa,
They'll remember the ones who provided those things
So let's give our dear friends the trip of their dreams!

I picked the most handsome and entertaining guy in the universe just so that I could spend my snow days photographing him.

She is not digging the snow, so we were outside on the porch a total of maybe 45 seconds =) Then Mommy stayed outside with gloves on and took Piper and Daddy's portraits through the window.

So my new addiction (blame it on my beautiful baby girl) is baby hats. Pi Pie already has quite the collection! A couple are featured in our holiday pictures above! We wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and hope you all are enjoying this beautiful snow as much as we are!

I shot this video for Steven and Tish to mark their 10 year anniversary. The location took place at Steven's old job where Steven and Tish first met. This is definitely what a happy couple looks like!

We had such a great time with the photoshoot; I was so psyched about it that I stayed up all night editing shots and making the video. I finished just in time to end up in the hospital to deliver my beautiful baby girl (who is in my lap now as I type this entry)! =)

So, Marielle and Tony are absolutely gorgeous. I stumbled across Marielle the night before I was having my own family portraits done about 5 years ago and needed my hair colored. And, well, my hair has been committed to Marielle longer than any of my relationships have lasted! =) I won't be able to say that about too many things now that I have my Bobby though, so no worries. ♥

Marielle is an artist when it comes to hair; you can find her at The Loft Salon on 16th Avenue in Nashville. Tony is a member of the killer killer band CAPRICE and you can hear their music on myspace- they have a new album being released this year and have several upcoming shows at The Exit/In and more!

Congrats to my Aunt Pam and to Louie on their engagement and upcoming wedding!! It's always such an honor when a family member asks that I document such an important day for them....why?

Okay, well, not that I am some sort of Celine Dion or *hmmmm....did I just give away my age* anything, but I remember EVERYONE in my family loving *or pretending?* to love my singing voice and at every family gathering asking me to sing. Everyone, that is, except my three dear brothers. They HATED my singing voice.

I couldn't fathom the idea of anyone hating hearing me sing "Have Mercy" by The Judds at the top of my 10 year old lungs. All I can say, on both my behalf and my family's, is thank God for photography! =)

So thank you, Aunt Pam and Louie, for allowing me to document your engagement and your wedding- I understand it beats having me revive some old Judds tunes! =)

I had a blast photographing Aunt Pam and Louie and sneaking in the video. It was so fun surprising them with their engagement movie that started out with the pictures and led to their videos that they had no idea was being shot during their engagement session! My original plan was to take out all of the video sound (so you couldn't hear me directing the poses) but I couldn't bear to take out Aunt Pam laughing and it was so great hearing her so happy!

My Baby Brother is Growing Up?!

Saturday, my little brother got married on the beach at Destin, Florida. We are all so happy for him; he's 25 and it finally hit me- he's a grown-up!

I love you and Tiff so much, Jared, and hopefully, she doesn't torture you half as much as I did when we were little (putting your hair in a ponytail, making you play My Little Ponies, letting you take the blame for stepping in poo on the schoolbus when the stinky culprit was actually on the bottom of MY shoe- yes, I still feel like a horrible sister for that, especially when I remember your cute little embarrassed face, UGH, where is my time machine?!).

I wish you the very best in your life and marriage.

For everyone else, here are the engagement pictures I got of Jared and Tiff. Cute couple, huh? ♥ This engagement session actually took place on my Great-Grandmother's farm where we have sooo many childhood memories and hold most of our family gatherings. The flowers were improv; I saw them along the fenceline and it was like "bam! perfect!" It's crazy that out of all of the locations that we've used to photograph, one of my favorites is the one where I can remember bottle feeding calves. =)

Piper's Candy Colored Nursery

The name Piper kind of came out of nowhere. After we'd fallen in love with it and realized it was perfect for her name, it hit me that I had checked out the work of a photographer named Piper and that's how it must've gotten into my head. No, haha, I have not seen the TV show Charmed.

This is the blanket that I bought from Home Again Antiques and Gifts in Dickson, TN. The pattern matches the stuffed pink and blue owl that I registered for at Home Again.

This jack (pony?) in the box is a gift to Piper from her Grandma (my Mom). She gave it to us the day we found out we were having a baby girl.

As you can see, all of these pics were taken in Piper's nursery and Mr. Bear is letting us know how eager he is to meet the baby. He loves listening to her kick around and has even tilted his head at the movement in my belly a couple times. Almost every night, he lays his head on my belly or puts his paw on it protectively. Sounds nuts, but true story. The shelf and blanket and carrying case pictured are from one of my favorite places to be- yep, you guessed it, Home Again Antiques and Gifts.

Oh, this onesie. Made with love by my amazing sister-in-law, Tisha. She has already made so much and contributed so much in loving baby Piper.

So, what's up with the nursery pictures?

On May 1, 2010, I photographed the wedding (feat. in the blog below) of Jason and Nicole. I was stunned at how adorable their candy blue and candy pink colors were together.

On May 12, 2010, I shopped the vintage and boutique shops of great Dickson County, Tennessee (yeah, boy!) for anything that might be cute for my little Pi Pie's nursery. We are, after all, going to be meeting in just 4 months! I say meeting- by that I mean meeting face to face, because in reality for the past week now her cute little footsies have met my ribcage every night around 9:30 p.m. which seems to be her favorite time to play ninja fetus. =) I love her personality already.

So by around 1:00 p.m. on this fateful May 12th day, I had found two beautiful pink velvet Victorian chairs. My debit card was begging me to swipe it and yet...I wanted to think about it- although I knew I loved the chairs, something just didn't seem PERFECT. Plus, I was starving and no one should make a decision while in a state of such hunger.

One hour and fifteen minutes and one chinese buffet later, Mom and I were on our way home empty handed. She then pointed to a store that had some peppy-colored distressed furniture out front. In my defeated spirit, I pulled into a spot in front of the store anyway and then I actually LOOKED at where I had pulled in. HOME AGAIN ANTIQUES AND GIFTS on 128 North Main Street, Dickson, TN. Funny because Piper's Daddy and I had graduated from Dickson Co. High School together nearly 11 years ago without ever meeting and then met for the first time in Dickson Co. last year for our 10 year high school reunion. Now here we are in the county we were raised after 11 years of living everywhere but Dickson County, with our beautiful baby girl on the way, and the name of the store says it all- HOME AGAIN.

I walk in and am greeted by the store owner who immediately feels like family. There are only a handful of people whose warm heart shines through their warm eyes and soft smiles. One of those people is Misha Fuson, store owner of Home Again.

It was here that I discovered Piper's nursery furniture and accessories and where Misha will be helping me register for some of Piper's baby fun things. Such as a pink and blue owl that matches the quilt photographed above. Why owls? Because every Christmas gift I can remember buying my Great-Grandmother (Born 1914, she past away last year, she was a tremendously amazing role model) some sort of owl trinket because she just loved owls. So when I saw that I could have my candy pinks and blues and have cutesy owls to match, it just felt like my Great-Grandmother's way of saying "Hey, I'm in love with baby Piper, too."

As Misha was helping me load the furniture into my vehicle, a woman opening a trendy French Bistro was walking in to buy the furniture I had just purchased to display in her window. If I had been anywhere BUT where I was after 1:00 p.m. on this beautiful Wednesday, Piper's nursery would not be what it's becoming now. God has a very beautiful way of putting us exactly where we need to be when we need to be there.

A Pink and Blue Dream Come True

Remember Jason and Nicole, the fun couple with the engagement session at the carnival? From the DAY I shot their engagement session last year, I have been eager to see exactly what they would do with their wedding and how fun it would turn out- and how psyched am I that they did not disappoint! =)

Jason and Nicole were married in a church that each of their parents were coincidentally married in and they followed their ceremony up with a reception at The Memphis Zoo!

I had no idea how much I would love their wedding until all the beautiful pink and blue decor hit me and I realized I loved the color scheme SO much that I wanted to share it with baby Piper by decorating her nursery in the same candy pinks and candy blues!

Kiss my knight in shining armor before he leaves for work: check (oh quit pretending to gag, you guys wouldn't be hiring a wedding photographer if you weren't as in love as I am!). Walk the big happy jumping dog around the lake- check. Look in Piper's new nursery and officially decide on the colors and theme before Sara D. comes out and helps me shop for it- fail. Grind New Mexican Pinon coffee and get a big cup and sit it at my big girl desk- check. Review my calendar and make a list of what needs to be done for which clients and supporting vendors today- check. Write about how Samantha and Jacob are more fun than *insert clean witty expression, like wittier than the barrel of monkeys expression at least.*

Samantha sent me an email inquiry last year about photographing her November 2010 wedding. Immediately, there was something different about her. She had actually read my blogs, instead of just looking at the pics, and website (see what I mean? Aside from the 2 of you reading this now, she's already different!) and determined that she and I were soul mates (and there! A category of different that makes most people squirm uncomfortably as we laugh at our own "well it was funny to me" jokes).

I knew then that she was gonna be a fun bride and after her and Jacob's engagement portrait session- I am more excited than ever about their November wedding!

Using the photographs above, Samantha and I stayed up til about midnight (she was totally the first one to crash in exhaustion! I WIN!) communicating and (re)designing her Save the Date cards. I have to say, once we had them in hand, it was hard to stop staring at them. They are printed front and back with a pearl shimmer and they have Jacob and Samantha's happy glowing faces all over them. I am giving the mail time to deliver the cards to Samantha's guests before I post pictures of them (I am thinking I'll post them on Tuesday).

Another cool thing? I opened my mailbox yesterday and Jacob and Samantha had not only sent me and Bobby a Save the Date card, they had also sent me a birthday card with fun stuff inside. I am so thankful to my wedding clients, Dani and Spencer, for the referral. You guys just don't know the friendships and greatness that happens when you think you are only saying a kind word or two about Frozen Exposure.

This is how Charles and Elizabeth became my heroes. = ) As part of their wedding package, they added on the FE Smile Shoot (where my assistant and I set up a black curtain in the corner of the room or in a separate small room), and the guests, wearing various props, rock out as if they are in a photobooth. Most fun ever. No lie. The guests got to take home a picture featuring four of their hilarious poses.

Ryan & Lindsey: My Disney Movie Couple

I woke up the morning of December 20, 2009 with both the happiest and saddest thought: Today is Ryan and Lindsey's wedding. Happy: I loooooove photographing Ryan and Lindsey. Sad: After their wedding, they get whisked away to their honeymoon and then back to med school in Phoenix.

I had 24 hours left of photographing my Disney movie couple!!!

Looking back through the past few months at their engagement pictures:

it all was leading up to the great big wedding day and creating images that would do them justice. No pressure! As I told Lindsey's parents when I met with them over coffee to give them the wedding discs, I could have taken pictures of Ryan and Lindsey for days, there were so many beautiful settings there at Historic Elm Springs, the wedding venue/antebellum home located in Columbia, Tennessee.

I will be designing a wedding album for show to future clients- showing the transition of engagement portraits to bridal portraits to the wedding day itself. It really is a great way to get the most out of your wedding investments and start the wedding documentation months prior to the wedding and have that to show in your wedding album.

The Royal Engagement of Charles and Elizabeth

I met Charles and Elizabeth at a Starbucks in Franklin on a Saturday night (or was it Friday?). They were looking for a funky photographer who would take charming photographs of people- not tablecloths. Hmmmm, I thought, that's me! Although, tablecloths do need love, too...

I was psyched when they chose to hire me as their wedding photographer. They have a distinct look in photographs- very classic gorgeous with a funky attitude twist that tells me it's okay if I make the occassional "tanya-you-are-not-quite-the-comedian-you-try-to-be" joke.

The engagement session was so much fun as we spent a couple of hours hiking through the fields and park, along the lakeside and ALL of this with their little pup, Scout, bouncing along, when I say little, I mean MIC-RO-SCOP-IC. I will make sure to get a pic up that proves this.

Charles and Elizabeth are getting married this March at the Memphis Zoo. Spell it out with me A-D-V-E-N-T-U-R-E! (Yes, I was an English minor in college, that's why I can do that.)

Charles and Elizabeth chose the park/woodsy scene because they are avid runners, hikers, all that great outdoorsy awesomeness that I would like to think I am all about and then realize halfway up a flight of stairs otherwise...*sigh* Anyhow, I have confirmed that they are very good at this running they do by some very light and totally legal stalking of their Facebook pages, where I posted and tagged some of their engagement shots for them to share with their friends and family.

Christmas Bridals

As I photographed Lindsey during her bridal session, I realized the trouble with Bridal Sessions-

you CAN'T share the pictures until AFTER the wedding!

Yes, I am obviously the type to struggle with not giving a birthday or Christmas gift early- it's like this war between giving into excitement and knowing you have to wait before you can fling all the happy goodness around for everyone else to see.

That said, it was no surprise when halfway through the shoot, I looked at Lindsey and the images we had gotten so far and I said in dismay "Omigosh. We have a whole month before we can post these images."

Lindsey (you may recognize her from her Engagement Session as the girl kicking her leg up wearing a white sundress and cowgirl boots while the love of her life, aka Ryan, has her scooped up in his arms) helped me create images that project exactly what I am trying to pick up in a Bridal Photography Session- the excitement of wearing the dress weeks before the wedding and running around, with time on your side and no pressing schedule, allowing for creativity and fun and getting the most out of your dress.

I have never seen a Bride add a white fur to a wedding gown- an absolutely unique and beautiful touch to the whole setting.

I was honored when Matt and Miranda asked if I would do their Christmas portraits and Lyla's 18 month portraits.

Lyla is packed full of more energy than a law office located within walking distance of a Starbucks. Inside joke? I had a blast chasing little Lyla around (I KNEW I could make up for skipping out of the gym that day!) and watching Matt and Miranda keep up with her and make her laugh.

A Bright Sunny Day With Logan and Mae

Pamela opened the car door to introduce me to Maekayla and Logan. Before my eyes could even focus on Mae's smiling, enthusiastic face, she was greeting me with a mega-hyped, loud, but tiny, voice "ARE YOU THE PHOTOGRAPHER?!" I looked at her mother and saw her smile that said everything- these kids are kind of a beautiful big deal.Logan surveyed the commotion from his carseat -watching with what seemed to be a thought process along the lines of "if this woman with the camera gets over the top, I will shut her down with a fit and some spit up." I decided that as Pamela dressed Mae for the shoot, I would stroll around to Logan's side of the car and get the scoop on his mood. I leaned in close to him and made a silly face. When his tiny, bright blue eyed, face full of wonder broke into a heart-melting, seven months of a baby goodness, all is right with the world, smile- I knew it:

THIS PHOTOSHOOT WOULD BE THE MOST FUN A PHOTOGRAPHER COULD HAVE.

I really want to give credit where it's due here- I'd like to thank Logan and Mae's amazing super-hero quality mom, Pamela. Mae, at 3 1/2 years old, had "practiced" smiling, and was so excited for her photo session. Pamela brought SO many clothes and props, accessories, etc. for us to play with which allowed us to get the kids in such a cute array of outfits and different looks. As I was photographing and heard Pamela behind me, hopping up and down, dancing, singing, doing everything but playing the Tuba while standing on her head, I appreciated so much her enthusiasm for the photoshoot.

It's good to have a day like this day and a shoot where the kids are actually having enough fun that the shoot (we didn't even realize it until the time had passed!) lasted 3 hours! Kids this age lasting through a photoshoot for 3 hours?! =) WOO!!!

I Just Can't Wait to Be King =)

To everyone who would like to get a glimpse of the King family (and I apologize for anyone who, due to my blog title, now will be signing Lion King songs in an adult environment throughout the work day):

Meet the beautiful E-Man (Like He-Man with a silent "H" like the word "herb"...why are there words like that anyway? Today, my friend Beth and I have fought over the word "salmon." I fully intend to bring the "L" back!)...end side note.

My first portrait shoot of E-Man, aka Ethan, was last year. He was dressed as a puppy and I kid you not, holding a warm, puppy baby cures all ailments.

You can't tell me this handsome fella doesn't look like Mini-JT (refer to the hair, esp.). I'm pretty sure he's not actually celebrating Halloween as JT, though.

Ethan is at that age where things are getting interesting. He's pointing and distracted and psyched about the world. It's absolutely inspiring to watch. Seeing him look at things as if, and possibly may be, seeing things for the first time, stopped me in my tracks. At one point, I lowered my camera and just watched in curiousity- instead of snapping my fingers and hopping up and down to get him to do what I wanted and smile and look at me, I realized the better picture would be for me to capture him doing what he wanted to do- to capture the world through his eyes, his excitement and his expressions as he saw the leaves and wind chimes. It seemed almost WRONG to interrupt him and try to recreate his moments, instead of capturing them as they actually were- beautiful. And then there was the moment where we had him stop playing with the wind chimes so that we could move on to a different setting. Ha. You see how that worked out (see below):

Waiting for Baby O'Dell To Arrive

Kristine and Matt are having a baby! I love the collage above: the left shot shows how affectionate Kristine and Matt are towards one another, and then the top right shot shows how excited they are for the baby, and the bottom right shot shows how playful they are. Of course we had to include the White Pumpkin of 2009- I am glad to hear that I am not the only person who didn't know they even existed until this year...would've been much cooler if I'd known prior to embarrassing myself while photographing a wedding by saying "Wow, you guys painted pumpkins!" Luckily, by the time Kristine and Matt met me for their maternity session, I had wised up and was now a pro at staging white pumpkin photo greatness!

I honestly don't think Kristine could have picked a more perfect sweater for this photograph. And good job on making the hand-heart, Matt! These blocks are the coolest thing since...okay, they're just the coolest thing period. Matt's family had them and so having them in the shot wasn't just rad, but also sentimental! =) *sigh* I do want my own set now. I could run around spelling all sorts of things and taking photographs of it!!! Wonder if I could find enough blocks to spell out: THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR HAVING FROZEN EXPOSURE PHOTOGRAPH YOUR MATERNITY SESSION, KRISTINE AND MATT!!!

(Sort of) Trash the Dress!

So you had the big wedding day. Everything was perfect. And now all that's left is the perfect guy, the wedding album, and the dress hanging in the closet. And you were so enamored with keeping everything perfect, that maybe you didn't cut loose and really pose in your gorgeous wedding dress because you didn't want to get it dirty. So?

This past weekend, a few brides and I decided it was time to get the gown outta the closet and go have some fun with it!

We did a trash the dress session and although the dresses did get dirty from crawling around in abandoned buildings and fields, etc., we didn't really trash them...however, a couple girls want to do a shoot in the near future walking through the creek and maybe using paint, etc, and REALLY trash the dresses! So here are some shots from the "Sorta" trash the dress shoot! We had a GREAT time! Thanks to all the brave, beautiful brides/models (Alli, Jessica, Beth, Angel, JR) for making the shoot such a success! And a special thanks to our amazing, talented make-up artist Kathryn Kimble of Visage Bella and to Roger at Julia's Homestyle Bakery in Murfreesboro for the gorgeous and delicious cupcakes and wedding cake!

To state the obvious, you're gonna have fun anytime you get five crazy guys in a band together for a photoshoot...forget the fact that I was standing in the middle of the road for half the shots and the guys had to, with sincere panic, yell "CAR!!!!" everytime they saw one approaching in the distance. Awww.

KATIE'S 27 DRESSES THEMED BACHELORETTE PARTY

Love the movie 27 Dresses? Remember the scene where Kevin sees Jane's private collection of bridesmaids dresses?:

"Kevin: [snickering] Right. Well, that makes complete sense because they're... *beautiful*.

Jane: Some of them are not that bad.

Kevin: Not that bad? I'd like to see one of them that's not that bad. "

So all of Katie's girls decided not to keep their dresses in the closet and dressed up for her surprise 27 Dresses themed bachelorette party. They held the "tacky" peach ruffly dress out especially for Katie to wear once she walked in and saw them all in their dresses....somehow though, everyone (but Katie) ended up ooh-ing and ahh-ing over how pretty the dress actually looked once Katie put it on....

CALLING FOR TRASH THE DRESS PHOTOSHOOT

NEEDED FOR PHOTOSHOOT:

One or two make-up artists- we will have 4-5 girls and need bold colors on a couple of their faces and a couple to have a dark smokey look. I do not currently promote a make-up artist on my Vendor tab of www.frozenexposure.com so this will be a great opportunity for me to find a make-up artist to refer clients to. Once I have a definite on the girls, I will send you a headshot of each girl.
Four to Five girls with wedding dresses- your dress WILL get ruined. The idea of the session is NOT to maim anyone's dresses, (except for the one or two that we'll be getting paint on), but to have fun, walk through creeks, lay in the grass, etc., etc., and to pretty much have a carefree shoot and NOT be concerned about the dress getting dirty, but to almost encourage it). So please only respond, preferably by email to tanya@frozenexposure.com, if you are serious about the shoot, love the idea of being featured in the Trash the Dress photoshoot, can't be shaken from the idea by your friends and family who will be trying to convince you that your dress belongs in your closet untouched for the next 80 years, and have the dress (even if it is not your actually wedding dress, but is secondhand). NOTE: If you are using a secondhand dress or one from a dissolved marriage, then let me know if you're willing and your dress will probably be the one getting the most grunge and paint, and we will try to spare the dresses that are more sentimental and that the other girls are more apprehensive in messing up (those dresses, however, will still be exposed to water and mud).
Three to Four guys in tuxes, one or two can be in jeans and a tuxedo shirt for fun. At least one guy's tux will be covered in paint. After pouring over some internet images, I think also if the guys just wear black shirts and black pants, that would look good, too.
Florist to provide three to four bouquets. This will also give me the opportunity to find a florist to list as a vendor on the Frozen Exposure Photography website.
Cake decorator to provide wedding cake. Same deal as the Make Up Artist and Florist, although I currently have one decorator listed.

I have set up an event on facebook for this photoshoot to keep all that will be involved informed and in contact with one another. Because this is a project that I am organizing on my own, I am, of course, waiving my $350.00 portrait session fee and each participant will get a disc of the images to use as they please and the make-up artists can definitely use the images for their portfolio.

THE WEDDING OF JEFF & SAMANTHA: UNVEILED

Old Hickory Country Club; Madison, TN

I had a blast photographing the fall wedding of Jeff and Samantha. Their color scheme had just the right twist of fall elegance (complete with white pumpkins) mixed with a surprising twist of pseudo-traditional nostalgia. By that, I mean that Samantha traded in the traditional wedding veil and instead donned a gorgeous feather barrette pinned in the back of her hair which was pulled into a low twist.

Oh, that's not pseudo-traditional? I wonder how many of the guests found themselves relaxing to the background orchestra music, which if one were to get stuck in their head, would later find themselves singing "whoa, whoa, sweet child of mine." Tricky. Very tricky.

What can I say? Jason and Nicole were a blast to photograph. I knew the minute that Nicole emailed me about her wedding coming up in 2010, when she told me that she wanted something fun as they would be getting married at the Memphis Zoo, I couldn't wait to shoot their engagement portraits and get to know them better.

The engagement session was so much fun: it was like following them around on a fun date at the fair. Some of my favorite shots, like always, are the ones where they are interacting and not concerned about where I am and seem to almost forget that this is actually a photoshoot.

Sneak Peek for Jesse & Beth: Wedding

Weddings! AHHHH, right?! Running back and forth, this person is late, the guest that wore a white dress (that's a total wedding day sin), flowers don't look alive anymore, Mom is brushing her hands through your hair frantically...NOT this wedding. We had plenty of time beforehand to walk around town and through backyards, finding the perfect scenes for wedding day shots- kind of like a field trip before the wedding. The ceremony went perfectly, the weather was gorgeous, and Jesse & Beth had a beautiful, and extremely fun, wedding day and believe me, the guests had plenty of entertainment.

I thoroughly enjoyed being your photographer, Jesse and Beth. Thank you for allowing Frozen Exposure to capture your wedding day memories.

Ryan & Lindsey: Engagement Shoot/ Sneak Peak

Meet Ryan and Lindsey.

These guys were an absolute blast to work with. I wanted the night to be more about "following them around on a date" and capturing their moments together and less about "photography" and throwing out standard poses and they were completely willing to have fun with the shoot.

They flew from Phoenix where they met in med school (hence the picture of Ryan checking Lindsey's heart) and now plan to be married this December.

We decided to do the theatre shoot because when they aren't studying like crazy to be brilliant doctors, they like to go to movies. They tell me to skip seeing Public Enemies, however. =)

We decided to shoot at the lake because Ryan is a from California and Lindsey is from Tennessee- we figured the lake was a good in between...?

I love the shot above because Ryan is wearing flip flops through the shoot while Lindsey wears her cowgirl boots- see? Shoes ARE important! I can't wait to shoot Lindsey's bridal portraits in November and I know their December wedding will be absolutely stunning.

Thanks Ryan and Lindsey for going around with the world with me this past Saturday and for having so much fun with the engagement portraits. There is a business side for Frozen Exposure, it is http://www.frozenexposure.com/. And then there is a personal side- which is what you're seeing now. A friend once told me that he didn't recommend that I show my "fun" side to clients on this blog because it seemed unprofessional- pretty much that I should speak only contracts and dollar amounts. And then, he wasn't in the business of photography or any sort of art medium. As a wedding photographer and portrait photographer, particularly, I share personal and special moments with my clients. Wouldn't they prefer to know that they aren't working with a complete robot? Wouldn't they want to feel like although they had hired a professional- they were also working with a new friend? I know that while photographing them, I would much rather have their sincere smile as opposed to the one that they would give to a stranger.

So then, there is the above photograph. One of my new personal favorites of a close friend.

Meet Jessica. I call her Jeskie (Jehs-kee). She is pure undiluted honesty in the form of a short person (not that I have anything against short people, but they really are the feistiest sort of people, aren't they?!). And she's one of my best friends. I am posting this photograph of her that I was able to talk her into posing for after church one day when we spotted a building with graffiti. How I got her to pose, I'm still not sure. She must've either been sick or experiencing a patient mood that only God could inspire. =) No offense, Jeskie!

I particularly like Jeskie's portrait against the hazy graffiti because, as cheesy as it sounds, it seems to fit her personality: straightforward and written plainly on the wall, yet it has so much art and deliberation to it. Some people see absolute beauty in it- and some people see it as troublesome or too direct. I happen to be in the first category- she has used her ability to be 100% honest to give me some of the best, most constructive, criticism that I have ever gotten from someone who also wanted to remain on my good side.

Jeskie's birthday is this Thursday, and I hope it's one of the best ever. And yes, I will have my camera "Hans" with me. =)

Mike & Collette Breen: Wedding

This was one of the coolest, most relaxed weddings I've shot in a long time. Collette & Mike had a beach themed backyard wedding and the guests wore cute sundresses and flip flops.

I felt at home photographing and they were relaxed enough that most of their shots didn't even have to be posed. They are gorgeous together and I wish them complete happiness. . .

Nic & Diana

I was fortunate enough to do the engagement portraits of Nic and Diana this past Saturday. It was gorgeous out and the first thing Diana said as they were approaching me was "Gosh, you have a fun job!" =)
Of course I agreed- it IS a fun job, but I didn't realize just how much fun it would be until Diana suggested a "snow cone" shot and they were picking on me about my farmer's tan, etc. I have several candid shots of Diana and Nic laughing and (I know, I'm cheesy) but as I go through their photoshoot, editing shots, I can't help but smile back at some of the silly shots and then at the shots where they are looking at each other laughing because they were actually having fun.
I love when shoots turn out this way and I can see that the couple is having fun, allowing me to get geniune shots.
I sincerely look forward to their wedding- I can't imagine it being anything short of perfect. This couple is so charmed by each other that it shows in their images and makes photographing them that much more fun- especially the way when I tell Diana to look at Nic for a pose, she smiles and whispers "hey!" to him!
Best wishes to you, Nic and Diana. I enjoyed our portrait shoot very much!
P.S. The farmer's tan (burn) is still kickin loud and proud! Think I'll be picking up that aloe tomorrow!

A Night of Visions

My friend Jeskie invited me to attend A Night of Visions at SOL (downtown Franklin) this past Monday which went to benefit Autism Awareness (she works with autistic children). Here is a composite I made for Visions and for her. Great people.
It was a great night and as a bonus, The Lonely Hearts played live during the auction. The cuisine at SOL, as always, was amazing. Seeing all of the talent and contributions made by the employees of Visions, by the Lonely Hearts, SOL, and all of the stellar (when I say stellar, I SO mean the autographed Manning jersey!) donations people put up for auction to go towards the cause was really moving.

Tony & Danielle: Portraits

Kids in love are pretty much game for any pose you ask them to do. Of course, I have to ask like "Hey, see that light thing? That would be cool!" instead of what's going through my head which is "Hmm, lots of white background, black light with a lot of character, if they go stand under it and get to talking- I bet I'll get a killer romantic street scene kind of shot." This scene matched their attire perfectly. It was like walking past the light mounted above the door and then connecting that their black and white clothing was perfectly in sync and having my camera give me a great big "ahem!"

April & Josh: Family Portraits

When planning this portrait shoot, April and I were discussing her skepticism on how long the kiddos could hang in there and pose. It's no secret that the Dad's photo-tolerant fuse is just a liiiiittle shorter than the kids- not the case here- (whew!).

What I've noticed when doing most shoots though, are that the best shots are the ones not planned. The shot with the entire family facing away was the product of circumstance tweaked just a bit. We were heading out of the venue after the shoot, and Josh and April sat down to let the kids check out the fountain for a second. The kids did their thing for a couple seconds and then sat down with Mom & Dad.

With a little coaching from Mom, they looped their arms and voíla. I can sit and think of poses and different ways to pose families, but shots that just happen are always the best. It's that MINUTE that everyone gets comfortable or casts a glance at one another and STOPS posing, that always seem to come out the coolest.

Matt & Erin: Wedding

I love how Erin & Matt had ideas and had flipped through magazines which helped them convey to me the kinds of shots that they had in mind. When Erin told me she had seen a shot in a magazine of the couple in the church facing each other, this shot came to mind and I searched for a texture to give it more of a warm church look.

I love the lighting in this picture, and I love how the group of candles to the right of the image carry as much visual weight as Erin & Matt's embrace on the left side of the image. It made for a beautiful balance and an image that I'm glad to have gotten to create for them on their wedding day. With every wedding, I find the ONE shot that stands out to me more than any of the others. For this wedding, this was my shot. The church, the lines, the light, the couple, the swoop of her dress, the way Matt is leaning his face to hers, everything about it tells their story in a single image.

Jessica & Matt Wedding

Jessica and Matt got married at TapRoot Farms and there were so many scenes to work with.

Jess was such a trooper for hiking up and down the road so that we could get different angles of her shot with the lines of trees.

Matt and the guys totally had no problem manning up in their tuxes and climbing around in the old truck.

We had a lot of fun during our portrait session of the wedding day and Matt and Jessica could not have been happier- making it so easy to relax and be creative in order to get shots that separates their wedding images from the mix.

I left this wedding psyched to start editing and looking at what we had created.

Experimenting with Textures

Lately, I've been experimenting with textures and fonts that have a storybook feel. I am starting to work with designing albums for wedding clients and families.

Here, I tested one of my personal photographs, although it's a bit outdated (npi).
